Block bench press/pause press is a very effective exercise for building strength and training muscle recruitment for your “sticking point” in the bench press. If you don’t have access to a solid block, then utilize the smith machine and set pegs just below the weakest point of your bench press range. Bring the weight down to that point, stop and then re-fire/re-engage the muscles to begin the pressing motion.
*Note, if using the smith machine with counterbalanced weight, the amount of weight that you are normally able to train with will likely be different. Take that into account when choosing the training weight.
